Washington, D.C. -- Congress today voted for a Bush administration proposal that ignore real solutions for Western communities and does next to nothing to protect homes and communities from wildfires. By a vote of 286-140 the House passed a conference report closely mirroring the Bush Administration’s so-called "Healthy Forests Initiative". The Senate adopted the measure by unanimous consent.
The result will be wildfire policy that effectively removes citizen participation, interferes with the judicial system, increases commercial logging, leaves old-growth and roadless forests vulnerable, all while leaving communities at risk.
